One of the best examples of effortless elegance in film is the style of Catherine Banning - Rene Russo's character in "The Thomas Crowne Affair". Her looks consist of classic styles, unfussy silhouettes and neutral tones, which are timeless and look as polished today as they did when the film first came out in 1999.
This sophisticated look is not hard to achieve. It's all about embracing the classics, in which everybody looks a little more soignée (such as the little black dress), as well as working with a good tailor (tailoring can elevate any look, you can own the room in H+M if the fit and proportions are right).
I like to invest in high-quality wardrobe staples, so I can wear them often and really live in them, pieces that can take me from the office to dinner with clients to the an evening event. Uncomplicated styles also make the perfect backdrop for statement accessories and fine jewelry, like the multi-strand pearls the Russo wears throughout the film.
