I am in awe of Demna Gvasalia's couture dresses created in honor of the house of Balenciaga's 100th anniversary. Gsavalia pulled classic images from the house archives and recreated 9 of Cristobal Balenciaga's iconic voluminous silhouettes, adding a few updates, such as pockets, to suit the modern woman.
Several years ago I saw the incredible 'Balenciaga: Spanish Master' exhibit in New York curated by Hamish Bowles and I got to see many of the original pieces that inspired these 9 dresses. I so regret not snapping any photos that day. Balenciaga's work has always called to me. His bold shapes, sculpted to perfection, are among my favorite couture creations of all time. This homage shows the lasting influence of Cristobal Balenciaga on the world of fashion and how he remains one of the most talented couturiers of all time.
